The Ceri, a Spore VIC.
The VICs: The Ceri.
The Ceri: Hand Made Model by MAp-MAp

Recently Spore Player Fozdyke became the first winner of our Spore Competition, winning the VIC treatment for his submitted creature, The Ceri.

The VIC Treatment included having his favourite creation bought to life by MAp-MAp, a T-Shirt from Spreadshirt with his creature on it and his creature featured in full motion video on the EA UK Homepage.

Over the next few weeks we will be giving all the winners the VIC treatment, right here on spore.com

We spoke to Fozdyke to find out more about The Ceri and his thoughts on Spore and to ask the all important question, Pirates or Ninjas?

The competition is now over but you can see all the winners here and don't forget you can still download the Creature Creator here.

We Spoke to Fozdyke, also known as Terry about Spore and his experience with the creature creator.

Hi Terry, How did you hear about Spore?

I've been following the development of Spore for a number of years now. I believe I first heard about it on Slashdot and have followed some of the talks such as Will Wright's on TED.

You were our first winner, Congratulations! How did you come up with your winning creature and how long did it take?

Actually the winning creation was my first after downloading the demo. I was checking out the suitability for my children basically to see if it was going to be easy enough for them (and me) not to get too frustrated making something that looked good. Obviously I found it wonderfully flexible and eminently suitable for both my children.

The actual design came from my wanting to see how well the animation worked so I chose a 3 legged tripod arrangement of the feet that was going to be challenging for the animation algorithm. The eye arrangement came about as I wanted to see how well the facial gestures would work. The design took me around 25 minutes to put together.

So how much time in total would you say you have spent on the Creature Creator?

I'm guessing I used it a couple of hours a day (both on my own & jointly with my children) for the first couple of weeks. Now I use it for an hour a couple of times a week . Primarily for relaxation as while I'm working on coding designs (yes I'm another dreaded coder).

Tanda, by Nexusdog

All of our featured entries won a T-Shirt from Spreadshirt. Which creature, apart from your own, would you like to have on a t-shirt?

I particularly Liked Tanda by Nexusdog as it has the feel of a really well designed creation but to be honest there are so many good creatures out there which is a credit to how well designed the tool is.

Moving away from the creature creator for a moment, which Spore Stage are you most looking forward to playing and why?

I like the sand box approach that Spore has taken so I guess probably the space phase. Civilisation Phase looks intriguing but I have seen only a few demos of this and that aspect has been done to death elsewhere but of course Maxis usually produce quality simulations. My children are looking forward to the creature phase obviously as they want to find their own creature within the game.

I think that's a big thing for everyone, we can't wait to see all the VICs interacting together in the Spore world. Finally, who would win in a fight between a pirate and a ninja?

Have to be the pirate as I have a certain affinity :-)

Thanks Terry, the prizes will be heading your way soon!
