The Corinthian War was short and brutal, the Kamorrans having bitten off more than hey could chew and then deciding to chew anyway. They made the point that even when you manage to surprise them they still come out on top. An unexpected player in the war was Shimeran star admiral Krcmar who found himself swept up by the sudden conflict. He said he "could not but fight," having been on a diplomatic mission nearby, and fight he did. Since he was not tied to the Kamorran military he was given free reign to do as he pleased, and he situated his ship in high atmosphere. All of the Corinthian orbital defenses had been knocked out almost immediately at the outset, but the Kamorran force became so embattled on the planet's surface that they could not muster enough resources to deal with replacements. Enter Krcmar, who spent 30 straight hours sniping down any non-Kamorran structure trying to establish geosynchronous orbit. His efforts are estimated to have reduced the overall casualties and duration of the war by up to 30%. The Kamorrans found it poetic that one humanoid species would help them pacify another and since then have more easily trusted the Shimerans compared to the Corinthians, though they interact much less frequently. In honor of the lives Krcmar saved, the Kamorrans decided a gift was in order. That gift, the Lyre class super dreadnought, is a fusion of Shimeran and Kamorran tech. It was an interesting challenge for the Kamorrans, building a ship of this size to accommodate alien bodies. Shimeran scientists were brought into the project to help the Kamorrans redesign key systems so that Shimeran personnel could use them comfortably. The techniques pioneered during the Lyre project would go on to form the base of Kamorran knowledge on designing for humanoids and was used to create the Ardent class among others. As for the Lyre itself, it was designed to be primarily a sniper in honor of Krcmar's role in the conflict that put him on the Kamorran map. The Kamorrans figured they'd give him something that he could use to its fullest potential. Numerous kinds of railguns serve as the ship's primary armament, with its main cannon firing the single largest round ever used by a Kamorran gun. This round weighs in at 87,700 tons and requires unique integrated shielding to prevent forces like gravity and others from interfering with its trajectory. It is called simply "the Fist," and when it hits it doesn't really matter how good your shielding is. Even the best mass inversion shielding, which redirects an incoming projectile's force back upon itself, is only capable of bouncing about 50,000 tons. If you are hit by the Fist, pieces of you will be raining down on nearby celestial bodies for years. The greatest threat to a sniper is the enemy that closes the distance, but the Lyre is large enough to have various standard arms like missiles and plasma coils for brawling. Compact Shimeran firetrain tech allows the guns themselves to be built smaller, and the conserved space was relegated to redundant weaponry. Like a shark's teeth, if a weapon is damaged it is simply jettisoned and replaced with a new one from below. If the Lyre doesn't kill you outright from a distance it will outlast you up close.
